"FamilyClick, headed by Tim Robertson, son of Christian Coalition founder
Pat Robertson, works with your existing ISP. Sign up at FamilyClick's Web site,
download and install its software, then run the Administration program, which
lets adults switch off the filtering to gain access to the full Internet; you
have to switch it back on before your kids go online. (The Administration program's
options are slightly puzzling, but FamilyClick promises to offer more help and
clearer choices in the near future.) After closing the Administration program,
go back to FamilyClick's site and set up separate log-in names and passwords
for each family member. Every time you launch your browser, the Family Click
sign-in page appears, which can be annoying if you're used to accessing the
Internet without first entering a password. But there seems to be no way for
teenagers to get around the system.
" You have a choice of six different levels of Web access, based on criteria
posted on FamilyClick's site. Anyone can ask for a blocked site to be reviewed,
but the site will be unblocked only if FamilyClick decides it no longer has
objectionable content. When the filtering is switched on, adults and kids alike
are blocked from pornography and hate sites. FamilyClick, , ,
