FamilyClick is utilizing server based filtering. What does this mean to you? It means you do not have to be concerned with updating filtering software on your computer, the software resides on FamilyClick's servers. That way, we're blocking or filtering at the source. Filtering software that resides on the server cannot be tampered with on your individual PC, a common problem with client side filtering.
FamilyClick categorizes Internet sites (URL's) that could be of an adult nature, or which otherwise may be objectionable or inappropriate, into approximately twenty content categories. We utilize both human review and automated processes to scan the Internet and determine which sites belong in each content category. This massive database of sites is updated daily. Access to sites in these categories depends on the level of access to which a family member belongs. This allows FamilyClick to customize access based on the maturity level of the member who is online. The "Account Administrator" for each subscriber family assigns each member of their family to the age appropriate access level.
FamilyClick uses the "next generation" of filtering technology called ClickReview to filter objectionable material before it is delivered to your computer. This is different from other server-based filtering products, commonly used by other filtered service providers, which rely solely on lists and apply a blanket approach to restricting entire Web sites.
The ClickReview process scans pages in real time and scores each Web page based on a review of the relationship and proximity of words to other words on the page. For instance, ClickReview can distinguish between a site on "breast cancer" and a site on "girls with big breasts," and treats the phrase "sexual harassment" differently from "sexual pictures." By choosing special FamilyClick Access Levels, you choose the type of material that ClickReview filters and the sensitivity of this filtering process.
Due to the dynamic nature of the Internet, no filtering product is 100% effective. However, at FamilyClick we have taken every precaution to ensure your Internet experience is protected from offensive material. If you happen to find an objectionable site, simply let us know and we'll quickly review it and respond back to you. Likewise, if you think a site has been blocked that should not be, just let us know.
For your convenience, we have established various levels of Internet access with age recommendations. The choice is yours. If after spending time online, you find that one level is too restrictive, or not restrictive enough, it's easy to change. |
