Adopt a Cyber Mascot - Lots of people seem to like to "adopt" a Web page mascot or guardian. This site will tell you the etiquette involved in adopting a cute animated graphic for your own pages. If you visit the My Own Cyberpets link at the bottom, you can find other sites from which you can adopt angels, fairies, unicorns, cows, and more. Be sure to read the CyberPet Netiquette section, too.
Happy House - Your Virtual Rodent - Net-mom gives a lot of talks about the Internet. While waiting for the audience to assemble, she likes to put something attractive and fun up on the screen. Often, it's Happy House Hamster. Download it (Win or Mac), click on the basket, and meet your virtual hamster. Read the directions so you'll know what else to do.
Mousepad Fun 'n' Games - At this site you can adopt a virtual orphan mouse, elephant, kitten, or other creature for your home page. You can also download accessories for your mouse and build a "hole" mouse house, called a mousepad. Lots of people are adopting these critters, and Net-mom admits they are pretty cute. Visit some of the elaborate mouse cities others have created! Note: If you adopt a "special needs" mouse you must also agree to link to a health-related site on your home page. Not a mouse fan? There are cats, bears, elephants, and bunnies, too.
SwineOnline - Now don't get too attached to your little virtual piglet. You only have about a week to raise him to a hog, and at the end of the week, well, he'll either win a ribbon or wind up as pork chops. Think of this more as a game of luck, strategy, and fun. Can you beat out the other farmers and get high score of the week? Be sure to take really good care of your pig (he'll e-mail you if he's not happy). New games start every Friday.
The Netfysh - Instant Pets on the Internet - Which one is better: the little horseshoe crablike Triops, or the ever popular brine shrimplike Sea-Monkey ? Compare and contrast these weird little creatures and decide for yourself. Here at Pollywood Farm we did raise a nice flock of Triops about a year back. They were a whole lot of fun, so now we're going to try some Sea-Monkeys, too.
Virtual Dog - This is a neat adventure game you'll have to play for days. You adopt a virtual dog at the pound (you have to give your e-mail address). Take him "home" (oops, don't forget to buy dog food), and get some advice from the vet (go back and buy that chew toy). As days pass, will you become a super owner or will your pup run away? If you can't visit "home" for a few days, put your pooch in the kennel until you can play again.
