Virtual Bangladesh - Bangladesh is a tropical country of hot, humid summers. It's known as the "Land of Bengal Tiger." A major feature of this country is a large delta into which the Brahmaputra, Ganges, and Meghna Rivers empty into the sea. The delta forms a large, fertile area used as farmland. The heavy rains which fall during the monsoon season make this country one of the rainiest locations on Earth. In 1971, there was a war for independence between the Bengalis and the Pakistanis; over 10,000 Bengalis were killed (this site has disturbing photos in the Holocaust Museum). On the lighter side, at this site you can try some online Bangla language lessons and get recipes for Bangladeshi egg haloa (a dessert) and sandesh (it means "good news"), which is prepared by many Bengali families to celebrate good news or festivals.
