Bhutan - A Country Study - Bhutan is a mountainous, heavily forested land located in the eastern Himalayas. Its highest peak is Kulha Gangri at 7,554 meters above sea level. This plain, yet extensive site from the Library of Congress contains many pages of information on Bhutan in sorted, easy to use categories.
Bhutan Web Site - Tashi Delek - Bhutan means "Land of the Thunder Dragon." It gets its name from the severe storms that come down from the Himalayas at the northern part of the country. Bhutan is a monarchy that gained its independence from India in 1949. It is an isolated country that tends to resist influences from the outside world; in fact, it limits the number of tourists to only 4,000 per year to help keep itself separated from the rest of the world. Some areas of this site are not yet translated into English and are available only in Japanese.
