CountryWatch.com-Europe - CountryWatch.com is an information provider for schools, universities, libraries and individuals who need up-to-date information and news on the countries of the world and for the public and private sector organizations with global operations and interests.
Database Europe - This is a geographical database that includes statistics, history, politics, culture, climate, and weather of all the European countries. It has been compiled by the students and teachers at the Albert Schweitzer Gymnasium in Erlangen, Germany. We hope they each got an A+ because they did a great job of gathering all sorts of information. There are wonderful maps of all the countries and of Europe. In addition, they link to many other sites filled with helpful information for a student working on a term paper or a family planning a vacation.
Geographica Homepage - The Interknowledge Corporation presents this professional-looking site that contains country-specific pages on many countries around the world. Each country site is both a pleasure to look at and a treasure chest of comprehensive information. This is a don't-miss site for worldly info-seekers.
The European Directory: TED - This collection of Web sites focuses on sites that are located specifically within Europe. You can browse through categories including art, science, health, and sports. Sites are also categorized by country and region. There are many different languages in Europe, and these listings include non-English sites that are only available in the native language. If you're looking for sites in French, German, or other European languages, this is a good place to find them. However, many sites are in English or include an English version.
The European Union - According to this site, "The ultimate goal of the European Union is `an ever closer union among the peoples of Europe, in which decisions are taken as closely as possible to the citizen: the objective is to promote economic and social progress which is balanced and sustainable, assert the European identity on the international scene and introduce a European citizenship for the nationals of the Member States." The European Union currently has 15 member states. It has its own flag, anthem, and "day" (May 9). One of the big initiatives is the launch of the euro currency.
