Blocks: a Digital Building Toy - Though it's disguised as a building block toy, this one is really teaching programming. It's simple to use the various colorful block shapes to build houses, trees, and more. What fun when you discover you can "instruct" the game how to build a "tree"-then whenever you type the "function" called "tree," it will automatically be drawn for you. Soon you'll have a whole forest!

Bungalo Books Headquarters - Have Some Fun! - Color a picture, connect the dots, read a story, send a card to a friend, and take a drawing lesson from John Bianchi.

Can the Hall's of Magic Find Your Card - Just pick a card, any card. Who will figure it out first? "Mojo: Using gut instinct and street smarts? The Sheik: Using psychic powers? Dr. Megabyte: Using cybernetic calculations?" Now remember whose hand the card is in and click on the appropriate illusionist. Unfortunately, they're none too smart, and you'll have to tell them again--and again. But by the third time they've got it right, and sure enough, the card they choose is the same one you picked. Canku Ota (Many Paths) - Without a doubt, this is the best Web resource on Native culture developed expressly for kids. It takes the form of a regular newsletter, featuring dozens of intriguing stories about what's happening in Indian Country today. Recent articles include one about how the Nez Perce are reclaiming their once-lost horse culture by developing a new breed of horse. Other parts of the site offer campfire-cooking recipes, craft instructions, and coloring pages. There are even links to native school Web sites.

Charlie Horse Music Pizza - Whether it's the waltz, the tango, or the fugue, it's served at Shari Lewis' Music Pizza Parlor. On the show you can learn about musical instruments, while at this site you'll find coloring pages, games, and project activities. These change from time to time. Recently they had very silly jokes here, such as the following: Shari: Did you know it takes three sheep to make a sweater? Lamb Chop: I didn't know sheep could knit!

Chevron Cars - If you like cars and fun, you'll love this site. Come to the playground for games and puzzles, and take a road adventure. In the Free Stuff area you can print out stickers, download screensavers and coloring pages.

Children's Television Workshop - Sticker World - Everybody likes stickers--big ones, little ones, animated ones. Yes, that's right, at this site, you can collect online stickers that do things. Lions roar, flowers bloom, dragons breathe fire, test tubes boil, machines run--you get the idea. You begin with a limited number of starter stickers. Create your own free home page and decorate it with your stickers. Visit other kids' pages to "trade" stickers with them and play games. Collect points by visiting other kids' pages, and then "buy" more stickers for your collection. It's fun, free, and fabulous!

Electric Playground - Do you want the scoop on your favorite game? Click on the late-breaking news area to find out all that is hot in the world of gaming and all that is not! Fake Out! - OK, give this multiple-choice quiz a try. The word "bleb" means: a) a Takis word for "blabbermouth"; b) a yellow fish with five fins and a long, blue tail; or c) the first movie that was ever on the big screen. If you said none of these, you'd be right, and you'd be a winner at this definition guessing game. The object of the game is to come up with word definitions so believable you fool other players into picking the wrong one.

Family Corner.com - Parents searching for good solid advice on their family and home life will find everything from teething, fitness, teenagers, home decorating and harvesting your herb garden. Send a beautiful electronic greeting for the holidays, try inexpensive gift ideas, have a blast with the new concentration game, or make a beanie snowman. This comprehensive site offers these activities and much more.

Fisher-Price - Sure, you can find out about Fisher-Price products and news about the company, but the best part is the section called Fun! It is slow to load, but it's worth it when you find all the games, activities, and goodies inside. Try to see if you can help a little puppy guess who is at the door. Listen for the clues, examine the two choices, and then click on "the friend who works on the farm." The door swings-were you right? Of course in real life, you shouldn'tthe door unless an adult says it is OK. Other games include shape and color recognition as well as an alphabet game. There are also activity sheets to print.

Flipper - Why not create something yourself? This interesting little JavaScript tool begins with a white 18x18 grid. By rolling your mouse over the white squares, you can "click" the "flippers" into any of four different positions. When you do this, you'll create a gradient of light and dark spaces in your drawing. It's amazing what this simple drawing game can do. It's addictive, too!

Fun with Spot - Join Spot, and his friends and family, as he celebrates his 20th anniversary! You'll find Shockwave games, activity sheets that you can print out, postcards you can send to a friend, game demos you can download, plus a whole lot more. There's even a teacher's section where you can find out how Spot can help in the classroom.

GameFAQs - In the old days the game puzzles were pretty simple. You went west three moves, then south until you came to the rattlesnake, then east until you came to the wizard who gave you something of value. These days though, you have to remember multiple plot lines, memorize a whole library of magical items, and become a veteran of hours of game play before you can come out a winner. No wonder everyone wants to find the hidden cheat codes, the back doors the designers used when they were play-testing the games. Many of them are collected here.

Good Bears of the World - Have you offered a bear hug today? There are lots of lonely kids and others who could use a bear hug, and this organization tries to give it to them. You can join a "bear den" near you and help raise money to buy teddy bears for distribution to local hospitals, police departments, and senior citizen homes. This nonprofit organization has affiliates worldwide; there is a directory at this site.

Hampster Dance - OK, we know "hamster" isn't supposed to have a p in it. But that is the name of the site. And what a sight! This page is guaranteed to make you smile. Be sure you have your sound turned on. This may take some time to load because there's a whole lot of dancing hamsters in here.

Humongous Entertainment - This character-filled Web site features sports, online games, promotional contests, and even has a fan of the week. It’s also loaded with all sorts of computer goodies like wallpaper, sound clips and screensavers that you’re guaranteed to love. There are crossword puzzles, mazes, word searches, and connect the dot activities for the whole family.

Keebler Tree House - Join the Keebler elves for fun and online games at their treehouse. Games include word search, matching, hidden objects, what's wrong with this picture, and other similar activities. Includes bios on each of the elves and fun recipes.

Kids Domain - This is a must-see site for all families. Lots of games and pictures to color, software downloads, clip art, and a list of links to similar sites. Click on Surf Safe and learn what rules you should follow when using the computer. Or go to Kids Can Program and find software that will help you develop your computer skills. Finally, take a minute (or lots of minutes) to scroll through the What's New section to find new games, ideas, activities, and more.

Kids Stuff with Magical Balloon-Dude Dale - For a beginner's guide to twisting balloons, try this site. You can learn how to make an airplane, a cobra, a dog, and several other objects. Don't miss the balloon sculptures in the gallery for some wonderful inspiration!

Kids' Clubhouse - For some wacky word puzzles and math and logic brain teasers, visit this site hosted by publisher Houghton Mifflin. There are also author interviews and book reviews for kids, by kids. They offer summer reading contests, too.

Kids' Space - This internationally recognized and award-winning site will become one of your favorite Internet destinations because it has something for everyone. Older kids might want to see KSC (Kids' Space Connection) to visit lots of home pages created by other kids--and they can list theirs here, too. Toddlers will love the detour to HPT (Hop Pop Town) to try out the many interactive musical experiences. But Kids' Space itself is everybody's home page. You can submit audio files of your music or digital drawings and hear and see what other children around the world have done, too. The Story Book is where kids write their own stories, using the pictures and themes provided. There is even a beanstalk that keeps growing each month in the Craft Room. Pick an artwork and create a story for it, or choose a story already written and draw a picture for it. All commands at this site include pictures with them, so even the youngest child (who may be still developing reading skills) can enjoy this creative and fun learning experience.

KidsCom - KidsCom is acool site for kids! Play along with our collection of kids games, or be a part of our monitored kids chat area. KidsCom focuses on kids Internet safety and online education.

KidsPsych - Can you believe this site offers games for ages one to five and ages six to nine? The very youngest users will have fun sorting shapes, painting an online circus picture, deciding which way to go around a maze, and trying other fun activities. Older kids get to repair a space station with a secret code, sort out mixed-up faces, and play I Spy. There's also a tricky puzzle involving a fox, a chicken, and a bag of grain. You have to get them all across the river, but your boat will only hold one at a time. Don't leave the chicken alone with the grain, or the fox alone with the chicken. Can you figure it out? If you can there's a surprise!

Klutz - Travel Games - You are on a 1,000-mile cross-country trip to visit Aunt Mabel. Your kid brother is singing "Do Your Ears Hang Low" for the umpteenth time, and your dad keeps going on and on about how he walked through the snow barefoot to school. In other words, you're bored out of your skull. Fight road boredom with some great travel games form this site. See license plates from around the North America so you can quickly recognize which state cars are from (before anyone else). Learn a simple game called NIM that'll kill many road miles, and print off some matching games that'll keep your brother quiet and give you both fun times. You may even look forward to going to Aunt Mabel's now!

Knowble - This site in a separate browser window so you will have to use the on-screen backward and forward arrows and buttons to move around. There are a number of cool things to do here, such as Explore an Ocean (choose Stuff, then select Games). Click on some seaweed and a scary shark pops out! Don't worry--his false teeth pop out too, and embarrassed, he slinks back into the shadows. Click on everything; there are other surprises. Look for coloring books, paper airplane directions, and other features.

Learn2 Juggle - Intro - Forget starting out with watermelons; learn to juggle three items with this easy-to-use tutorial. Don't expect to be able to do this right away! This site suggests that you should try three half-hour practice sessions to get the hang of it, and then practice about 90 more minutes before you're ready to perform in public. All you need to know is here--just provide three handkerchiefs or beanbags.

Learning Planet Kids Page - Choose a level: pre-K, grades 1-3 or grades 4-6+. In the earliest level, preschoolers can guess what number comes next as they load up train cars, count chickens, and explore an interactive alphabet. Older kids can play geography, fractions, and other games.

MaMaMedia - This jazzy site offers lots of fun activities and games, but let's look closely at the Surprise area. You do have to sign in (it's free, and they notify your parents), but after that, you can design your own town in the Presto area. Netmomville has a blimp flying overhead, a cool animated GIF shop, and lots of other digital gadgets. You can change things around in your personal town until you're satisfied. Then other kids can visit and play with your stuff. Only you can change it though, which is why you need a password. Stamps and Stomps lets you make your own stamp album out of clever (and noisy) illustrations. There's a lot more to do here at MaMaMedia, so check it out!

Name That Candybar - Do you like candy bars? Do you like them so much that you could recognize them anywhere? At this site you can test your skills! There are 24 pictures of candy bars that have been cut in cross-section so you can see what is inside them. Twelve of these are harder and in a different section of the site. See if you can beat Son of Net mom! I was able to get 18 of them right. Most of the ones I got wrong were some sort of local generic brand candy. If you beat me, well, give yourself a pat on the back!

National Hollerin' Contest - Is Mom loud when she calls you to dinner? Is Dad a real foghorn when he yells for you to clean your room? You know, they might have some raw hollerin' talent. In Spivey's Corner, North Carolina, there's a National Hollerin' Contest every year. Listen to this page and see if you think Mom or Dad should enter. You can even order a CD of the all-time best hollers! Hollerin' history is a real scream. Be sure to see what all the noise is about.

NeoPets.Com - This is a Virtual Pet community where you create your own virtual pet, and take care of him, play with him, and interact with other pet owners. Earn points to spend on you pet for food and toys. And don't forget to book your pet in the lodge if you will be away for a few days!

Noggin - Noggin is...a TV network. No, it's also a Web site. No, it's...well, maybe YOU can figure it out! And it's from the folks at Nickelodeon and Children's Television Workshop, who put their heads together and came up with the concept of Noggin. There are online places for you to explore (look in Phred's closet for a dress-up game, for example) and some word games in a new language called nogginese. You can also watch some Noggin TV from this site if you have the right plug-in.

Northern Wisconsin / Northwoods Activity Calendar - You don't have to live in Wisconsin to download this activity calendar and have way too much fun! In November, the daily suggestions include examining resin from a pine tree, making origami animals, and creating a musical rattle out of a gourd. Other months suggest seeing how far a grain of popcorn will pop, learning how to make rock candy, and stuffing a pillow with cattail fluff.

Nutty Sites - So, do you like those silly dancing animal pages... if so, this is the site for you. You'll be sure to find something to tickle your funny bone on this wacky site.

Paw Island....Please Choose Your Adventure..... - Paw Island is a magical world of dogs and cats. Join Mayor Graham Paw, Fifi LeGrume, and Buford Wagley in a wild adventure that's sure to please the whole family. Visit Fifi's Fur Salon, the Town Hall, and Buford's Bait Shop for fun and laughs.

Pokemon World - It's a game! No, wait, it's a cartoon! Hold on--it's a trading card game! Well, the only thing everyone agrees on is that Pokemon is a phenomenon! Look almost anywhere and you'll see Pokemon clothing, toys, probably even a breakfast cereal by the time you read this. Keep track of who's who in Pokemon World by consulting the Pokedex, an online encyclopedia detailing everything you need to know. This is the official Pokemon site, so you know the information is correct.

Teachers will like the lesson plan and activity ideas, and families will enjoy the feature articles.

Scrabble FAQ and Other Crossword Game Resources - Did you know that "a'a" is an acceptable Scrabble word? It's a type of rough, cinderlike lava. If you're a fan of the game, this page will go a long way to settle arguments and food fights over which word is legal or not. This page provides links to other Scrabble pages on the Web and even has information on the world championships.

Smithsonian Magazine Presents Kids' Castle - This site offers a neat mix of feature articles, message boards, and wonderful photos from the collections of the Smithsonian Institution. For example, here's a question: are fairies real? Find out how even Sherlock Holmes' author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was fooled.

Solving the Rubik's Cube - Take it out of the drawer, dust it off, and solve it once and for all. The instructions are at this site. Got one of those pyramid puzzles? There's a solution here for that, too.

Spelling - This site has a secret. Your mom and dad will think you're just practicing your spelling. But the truth is, these spelling games are fun! First pick your level. There are different lessons for first through sixth grade. First-graders can try to spot the misspelled word in this rhyming group: "pat-rat-st." Click the word that's wrong and then type it in the box: "s-a-t." Each time you get one right, you'll get one more turtle to stack up so a squirrel can reach a bag of nuts stashed on a high shelf. Sixth-graders have more of a challenge with their spelling games, but they are just as much fun to play.
