Ahoy! The Homepage Finder v3.0 - What affects the speed of ripening fruit? What results can you expect from different fertilizers? Does seed size matter? AltaVista - AltaVista Company is the premier knowledge resource on the Internet. Building on its strong search heritage and patented technology, AltaVista is unlocking the vast Internet to provide immediate access to the richest, most relevant information across multiple dimensions, including: Web pages, shopping, up-to-the-minute news, live audio and video, and community resources.

Ask Jeeves for Kids! - Why doesn't someone invent a kid-safe search engine that lets you type in a real question rather than all those plusses and minuses and quotes and other weird terms? So, you could just type in "I want information on the SuperSoaker 3000," and you'd get back just a few targeted sites, not 23,000 choices! And if you weren't the World's Greatest Speller, the search engine would check the spelling of your question, too. You could type in "I need a map of Arizonia," and it would ask you if you really wanted Arizona. Why doesn't someone invent a search tool like that? Guess what, someone did. Why not go and Ask Jeeves?

Citysearch.com - The place to go if you’ve been given a longer reprieve. You can find out about day spas, outdoor activities, golf, cultural tours, festivals and all the other fun things you used to do with your spouse.

CrossSearch - CrossSearch is a searchable directory of nearly 20,000 Christian Internet sites on the Web. CrossSearch aims to provide quick, easy access to all manner of Christian resources and information on the Web. Sites in CrossSearch represent the breadth of Christian traditions, denominations, and perspectives and address nearly every conceivable topic, from the arts to technology to religion--but always from a Christian point of view.

Dogpile - We know it's a weird name! Couldn't they think of something better? Dogpile will send your search query to up to 25 different search engines and send the results back to your screen. It's an easy way to ask the same question in many places, yet only enter your search terms once. There's also an "directory" where users enter favorite URLs into their proper subject headings, creating a library of recommended sites. That part of Dogpile is starting to look a little cluttered and unruly, Net-mom thinks, but you might like the main search area.

Excite.com - Excite.com is a leading Web portal, offering free, personalized information and services, including cutting-edge search technology, Web-based email, chat, and online shopping.

JoeExpert.com - The Search Engine For Web Design. - JoeExpert.com is a search engine for resources on java, HTML, javascript, cgi, dhtml, XML, perl, with tips and tricks for great Web design.

KidsClick! Web Search - Browse almost 5,000 educational and fun Web sites in 15 different categories. All of them have been selected, categorized, and described by a team of librarians who know what kids want. How do they know? Because kids come into their libraries and ask for these types of things! There is a neat and fast search engine to get you where you want to go. You can search for sites by your reading level as well as the amount of graphics you care to load.

Lycos - Lycos combines its proprietary technology with other search technologies and services to provide a powerful and relevant search experience.

Searchopolis.com - This is an extensive Education Resource Center for students, featuring a powerful filtered search engine, a directory of educational sites, reference tools, and other resources.

SuperPages : Yellow Pages - Search for a business phone number by category, name, or state. There are also "idea" pages with suggestions on whom to contact for back-to-school supplies, travel information, and lots more. One of the ideas is an expedition into your closet to have a "try-on day" to see what still fits before you shop for new school clothes. Maybe your little brother can fit into your old stuff now.

WhoWhere?! - Finding addresses should always have been this easy. We don't just mean e-mail addresses. We mean street addresses and phone numbers. You can also find people's home pages with the search tools here. Another cool thing is to find other people interested in the same things you are--or people who went to the same school or summer camp. That's called the Communities feature, so check it out. You can also find personal and business home pages, toll-free phone numbers, and more (we find something new every time we visit). There are English, French, and Spanish versions of this page.

Yahoo! - You can browse Yahoo! simply by clicking on the various categories listed on each page. Search Yahoo! by entering a word (or a few words) into the seach box that appears on every page in the directory. Combine the two strategies and you can "browse and then search" or "search and then browse." You should search Yahoo! when you are looking for a web site and you know its title. You should search Yahoo! when you are looking for a specific topic. You should search Yahoo! when you want to see where in Yahoo! a particular web site is listed. Now you know when to search Yahoo!.
