MUFON - The Mutual UFO Network - You'll find loads of unidentified flying object (UFO)-related links here. Parents are cautioned that we haven't checked them all. The Mutual UFO Network was founded in 1969, and it now has more than 5,000 members worldwide. Among other things, this resource will tell you what you need to do if you ever see something you think is a UFO. The first rule is: Observe carefully!
SETI@home: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence at Home - Now you can use your Win, Mac, or Unix computer to help look for ET! Just download the free screen saver (gee, it looks really cool while it is running). Then leave your computer on when you are not using it, and the SETI@home screen saver will come on and do its work. It does not need to be connected to the Internet. It uses your spare computer cycles to check the backlog of radio astronomy data sets, looking for signals that seem odd. When it completes a data set, it does need to connect to the Internet to transfer results. It's all explained in the FAQ. Here at Pollywood Farm, we are part of the SETI project, and you might consider joining too. You'll be doing some real science, and wouldn't it be cool if YOUR computer found the signal pattern that means off-Earth intelligence?
The Bermuda Triangle - There are two sides to every story, and this page takes the skeptic's side of the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle. This page explains, in factual terms, why many of the mysterious events attributed to the Bermuda Triangle may be no more than products of "over-active imaginations."
The Planetary Society - This nonprofit group was founded by astronomer Carl Sagan and others. Its mission is to encourage planetary exploration and the search for extraterrestrial life. Naturally, the Web site has links to the SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) pages, and now you can use your computer to help look for ET! You'll be doing some real science, and wouldn't it be cool if YOUR computer found the signal pattern that means off-Earth intelligence? But there's more. How about building your own Mars rover, which distant kids can control (don't worry, you can also drive their rovers).
The Schwa Corporation - The best evidence that aliens have already landed and have a Web page of their own appears here. Good luck--you'll need it.
Unidentified Flying Objects - Here are some of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's real X-Files! Released under the Freedom of Information Act, you can pore over 1,600 pages of UFO reports dating back to 1947, as well as one solitary page on the Roswell incident. You'll need the free PDF reader to look at the documents. Parents: All reports may not be suitable for your kids.
Who's Out There? A SETI Adventure - What if you were hired to search for life out there in the universe? How would you go about planning your investigation? What types of signals would you try to find? Where would you look? Try this adventure game to find some answers, but beware, it maystill more questions in your mind.
