IAMAT for Safety's Sake - Becoming ill in a foreign country is one of the biggest problems faced by international travellers. Coping with different food, water, climate, altitude and environmental hazards, as well as different languages and customs, puts the traveller under psychological and physical stress. There is a good chance, too, that the travellers own immunities do not match the foreign local environment. IAMAT is a non-profit Foundation established in 1960 whose aim is to advise travellers of health risks, geographical distribution of diseases, immunization requirements for all countries; and to make available to travellers around the world competent medical care by western-trained doctors who speak English besides their mother tongue.
Masta-Minding Your Health Abroad - MASTA (Medical Advisory Services for Travellers Abroad) was set up in 1984 at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. They aim to raise the awareness of health issues associated with travel. They achieve this by providing authoritative and up to date information via a dial-up computer system. MASTA has grown into an organisation with an International presence, whose services range from the supply of vaccines and travel medicines, through to research on important travel issues, as well as the development of unique products for travellers.
US State Department Travel Warnings & Consular Information Sheets - Have you ever fantasized you were an international spy? This site has links to all sorts of cool stuff! There are travel advisories and maps of all the different countries. Check out the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) publications and handbooks. Look at what's going on in different countries, what is necessary to get across the border, and what to take with you to be safe (besides your passport and your parents, that is).
