A WWW Railway Page for Norway - Norway has trains. Norwegians are serious about trains. And serious strategic planning about railroads is happening there. Immerse yourself in the towns and country of Norway with a visit to this train lover's paradise site. Read about railroad history in Norway, and see their trains of days gone by and of the not-too-distant future. If you're planning a trip, Norway's rail network information and timetables are here, too. All aboard!

Introducing Norway - Brown goat's cheese is found in virtually every Norwegian home. It's "a rather sweet cheese made of goat's milk and cow's milk." Yum! This is just one of the things you'll learn at this very cool site designed just for kids. Norway does a lot of things just for kids. In fact, the government has a special official, called an ombudsman , whose job it is to take care of issues kids think are important. Kids can just call up the ombudsman if they have any problems. We wonder if they can get help with homework, too! Learn about Norway's history, culture, and much more at this page that combines great content with great fun. By the way, the paper clip is a Norwegian invention. Really, it is--go to Bytes and Pieces (page two) and see! This site was created by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Svalbard - A Polar Experience - The term "polar expedition" takes on a whole new meaning at this site, because your travel guide is a polar bear! Just follow the bear for some of the most exquisite photos you've ever seen, from hiking on snow-covered mountains in the summer to incredible shots of the aurora borealis (northern lights) in the winter.

Svalbard: The Land of the Cold Coasts - Svalbard is called the "land of cold coasts," and they're not kidding. One thing that keeps it so cold is the fact that the land never completely thaws out in the summer. Only the top few feet warm up, which means you won't find any deep-rooted vegetation. Still, some 164 species of plants are found on the island. Svalbard is part of the kingdom of Norway. Since theng of an airport in 1979, tourism has increased. A vacation at Svalbard includes experiencing beautiful coastlines and desert--Arctic desert, that is. Don't pack a swimsuit, unless, of course, it's fur-lined!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Do you want to know about Norse trolls and other folklore? How about snacking on some nice lutefisk ? Or maybe you'd prefer learning about famous Norwegians, such as Roald Amundsen, who was the first person to reach the South Pole. This site has lots of information about Norwegian royalty, culture, and tourism.

The Svalbard Pages - If you'd like to see the polar bear in his native habitat, look no further! Travel north and east in Svalbard and you will be in polar bear country, where the bears hunt for their food. That's not all you will see in this icy country. The bird life is remarkable. You will also see seals, and in all probability whales and walruses. If you like the cold, you'd probably be right at home in Svalbard!
