Africa Online: Kids Only - You've just discovered the best Africa site ever for kids. Learn all about Africa as you answer questions that test your knowledge on all things African. Visit African school home pages, play a word search game, and take a quiz to see what you've learned.

Africa South of the Sahara - This site specializes in collecting Web pages related to the countries of south and central Africa. Sites are grouped by both country and region. Find information here on everything from Angola to Zimbabwe, and from West Africa to the Indian Ocean islands. You can also browse through categories such as Education, Maps, Birds, Weather, and much more. Each listing includes a brief description and all titles and descriptions are searchable.

African Studies WWW (U.Penn) - This extensive collection of Africa and African-related Web resources is supported by the African Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania. You'll find country-specific information, up-to-date African news, and picture collections. There is also a Yahoo-like directory of African-related sites arranged in categories. Last, but not least, is a K-12 section that has an arrangement of resources with a focus on classroom research and studies. All links on these pages are annotated, so you have an idea what the site contains before you make your selection.

CountryWatch.com - Africa - CountryWatch.com is an information provider for schools, universities, libraries and individuals who need up-to-date information and news on the countries of the world and for the public and private sector organizations with global operations and interests.

Faces of the Spirits - Doctors wear masks so they won't spread germs. Kids celebrating Halloween wear masks for a different reason: they want you to believe they are someone or something else! Sometimes masks have religious or sacred meaning, while others are worn just for fun. Explore some African masks at this colorful site. A caution to parents: Some of these masks may be frightening (but then, that's the idea).

Geographica Homepage - The Interknowledge Corporation presents this professional-looking site that contains country-specific pages on many countries around the world. Each country site is both a pleasure to look at and a treasure chest of comprehensive information. This is a don't-miss site for worldly info-seekers.

Index on Africa - This comprehensive index is maintained by the Norwegian Council for Africa (NCA). All Web sites within this collection (over 2,000) are focused on Africa and are sorted by news, country, and subject. Subjects include Children's Pages, Cooking, Health, History, Human Rights, and more. Another section includes Africa Update, which has daily news briefings from various African news sources. A search index is also included where you can search on the NCA collection only or the NCA collection plus over 150 sites at OneWorld, a site that focuses on human rights. Two additional Africa-specific search engines are included on the search page.

K-12 Africa Guide - If you're trying to gather information for a homework assignment or a project about an African country, take a good look at this site. Find information about Africa's languages, customs, governments, environment, and people. You'll discover and learn about the heritage of the different African countries and their rich history. The Multimedia Archives offer maps, images of animals, flags, satellite images, and pictures of African face masks.

Okavango @ nationalgeographic.com - This virtual safari into the jungles of Botswana will give you a close-up view of some of Africa's most unusual animals. Follow the tracks, then use your binoculars to see cheetah, wild dogs, antelope, and more. Remember, you don't need bug spray in cyberspace.

The Living Africa - Did you know that blue duikers, a type of small antelope, return to the same area each night to sleep--a rare habit unique to this species? Or that the people in Dibouti are Muslim, while many in Malawi are Catholics? There's much more to discover about Africa at this site including information about its cities, schools (a typical day at school), ethnic groups, and languages.

Wonders of the African World - Discover a wealth of African history and culture. Explore ancient African civilizations on this journey from Zanzibar to Timbuktu, the Nile River Valley to Great Zimbabwe, the slave coast of Guinea to the medieval monasteries of Ethiopia in search of the lost wonders of the African world.
