One reason is the frequent occurrence of elements in--comic books. After all, you need to know things like what's radioactive, what blows up when you add water, and what's really valuable. Is there really such a thing as kryptonite, destroyer of Superman's powers? Check it out.

They are the drawings that make up the comic strips in your newspaper. Catch up on your favorite comic strip characters, and see what they are doing on the Internet. Find out about the artists and how they thought up the characters, and play games based on the comic strips. Then take a detour from the main page to the National Cartoonists Society, where the real cartoonists behind the strips hang out.

Official Peanuts Home Page - All your favorites are here: Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Woodstock, Peppermint Patty, and Snoopy, of course! The history section is especially fascinating. The first "Peanuts" cartoon appeared in newspapers on October 2, 1950. But it wasn't until 1958 that Snoopy stood up on two legs. You'll find some fun Shockwave games here, and don't forget to vote for an official U.S. postage stamp to celebrate Snoopy's 50th birthday in the year 2000.
Thomas the Tank Engine, The Official Site - Do you know Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends? If you're a fan of Shining Time Station, then you'll love the coloring book pictures and information on Thomas and the whole gang. The popular television series is now shooting a movie, to be released in the summer of 2000. New shows are also being produced, and new Really Useful Engines are being introduced on this site. There's a cute matching game in the waiting room area, too.
