Austrian National Tourist Office - This site is the Austrian National Tourist Board's North American edition. If you want to see another edition, just follow the handy link they have provided. Austria is rich with tradition. It was the home of Mozart, who created his first symphony when he was a boy. Austria is well known as the setting for the movie "The Sound of Music," and the Austrian Alps are a famous place for skiing and outdoor adventure. This site has tourist-type information, as you might imagine.
Barbados Tourism Encyclopedia - The Portuguese and Spanish traveled to this island as early as the 1500s in search of gold. However, no permanent settlements were there until the English arrived in 1625. Sugar production became the island's main industry. The work was done by slaves, starting in the 1630s, and the first slaves were white indentured servants who had somehow displeased the Crown and were "Barbadoed" from Britain. Barbados gained its independence from England in 1966.

How did this province get its name? According to this site: "Plains Indians are credited with originating the name Saskatchewan. Mexico Travel - This is the official home page of the Ministry of Tourism. It describes the various states and regions of Mexico, which vary from temperate to torrid as the geography moves from the seaside to the jungle. Mexico has a long prehistory. Its original settlers may have come from Asia, over the Alaskan land bridge. According to this site, Olmec, Toltec, Maya, and Aztec cultures all left their marks on the land: "The architectural remnants of these civilizations can be found in virtually every corner of the country; more than 11,000 archaeological sites are registered." You can also read all about Mexican food and festivals here. And remember, the Mole Festival is not about small rodents. It celebrates mole (pronounced "MOH-lay"), which is "a rich, thick sauce made from various chilies, ground peanuts, spices, sesame seed, and chocolate."
Namibia Ministry of Environment and Tourism - Also known as "Africa's Gem," Namimba lives up to its name with contrasting landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rich culture. It was the first country in the world to protect its environment under its constitution. A large 15.5 percent of its land has been converted into national parks where birds, amimals, and plants are preserved and protected.
National Tourism Office of Vanuatu - The Kids/Educational section here has some wonderful pages on Vanuatu's history, culture, and geography. There's also a section on Vanuatu's volcanoes. Although this country has only 116,000 people, there are 113 distinct languages and even more dialects spoken there. Also read about the legend of the famous chief Roymata, and how he brought peace to the warring tribes. The rest of the story tells of the mysterious happenings after his death.
