AVMA Care for Pets - The American Veterinary Medical Association offers a super page on selecting a pet--and selecting a veterinarian to take care of it. Included are sections on dogs, cats, horses, and general pet information. Learn how to keep your pet healthy, discover the best way to travel with your pet, and pick up some safety tips on how to behave around animals. There's also a very sensitive section on how to know when it's time to say good-bye to your pet and how to handle the sadness that comes after that decision is made.
Healthypet - The American Animal Hospital Association's pages include frequently asked questions on many types of pets, from birds to dogs, from felines to ferrets. There are also coloring book pages as well as a pet care library. If you own a pet or are thinking of getting one, the advice here is a must-see.
Kyler Laird's Animal Rescue Resources - If you want a particular breed of dog, but can't afford a puppy, you might try to adopt an older dog that has been "rescued" from an animal shelter or given up for adoption by its owner. There's a rescue club for most breeds; you'll find a list of them at this site. If none seem to be nearby, try contacting a distant one anyway; dog people usually have a network of other dog people who are willing to help dogs find great homes.
