2001: A Space Odyssey-Internet Resource Archive - "Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. lab in Urbana, Illinois, on the 12th of January, 1992." Long before we had Picard and Kirk and before we had Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, we had HAL, the killer computer on the spaceship in 2001: A Space Odyssey . This movie was released in 1968, and it explored the differences between humanity and technology. Now it will be re-released on New Year's Eve, 2000! The story is told in a free-form kaleidoscope of images and sounds, and years later, people are still arguing about what it all means. This site gives you a lot of famous audio clips from the movie, as well as pictures and links to other resources about the film, including a HAL birthday Web site featuring the book's author, Arthur C. Clarke.
