Aloha From Planet Hawaii! - Once in Hawaii, you could spend several hours flying to all the islands in the Hawaiian chain. On the other hand, you can spend a few minutes island-hopping in a virtual way, right here on Planet Hawaii. Each of the Hawaiian islands is distinct in its own way, as evidenced by the web sites you'll find straight ahead in our island directories.
Cammunity.com - Cammunity.com broadcasts the most compelling live entertainment and information from 10,000 webcams and many special event webcasts from around the world. Need help setting up a webcam? The CamAssist area can help. Come venture around the world right from your computer. Visit exotic places, see live events, see all types of animals and explore.
Hershey's From Bean to Bar - Still hungry? Visit the Hershey factory and view the method behind those yummy chocolate treats. There's also a special "up close and personal" look at each ingredient, where it's also revealed that the silos at the facility can hold 90 million pounds of cocoa beans. That's enough of a supply to make five and a half billion chocolate bars!
Interactive Model Railroad - This one is pretty cool. You get to give commands to an actual model train at the University of Ulm in Germany! You pick the train you want to control, tell it which station to go to, and if you're quick (and lucky) enough, you're in charge. A box on the page gives the domain name of whoever happens to be controlling the train at the time.
Kite Aerial Photography - Ever wonder what the view is like from your kite as it soars high above your head? Now there's a way for you to see it. Check the tools and techniques at this site; then go fly a kite!
Mawson Station, Antarctica - It's extremely "cool" to get a live image of Antarctica. This picture is usually updated automatically each hour. The date/time on the picture shows local Mawson time, which is six hours ahead of Universal Coordinated Time, or UTC (previously known as Greenwich Mean Time, or GMT). Gee, it's 1 A.M. there and the sky's pretty bright! Also, it's extremely depressing to find out that it's warmer at Mawson Station than it is outside our window. :-) To find out how your local temperatures compare, use the Celsius/Fahrenheit conversion entries listed in this book in the REFERENCE WORKS--WEIGHTS AND MEASURES section.
NASA Television - How would you like to see pictures live from space? NASA Television has a slew of video cameras taking pictures of Earth, of weather in the vicinity of the Kennedy Space Center, and more. This site explains how you can watch over satellite TV or via several Web page locations. If there is a mission going on, you can view the shots as they come in. Want your NTV? It's out of this world!
Newbie Guide to Videoconferencing - The Newbie Guide to Videoconferencing. A beginners guide to videoconferencing that shows you how to videoconference without scaring you with hi-tech fluff.
Room 100, Buckman Elementary School - What are the kids doing in Room 100 of the Buckman Elementary School in Portland, Oregon? What are they looking at under their video-equipped microscope? During the school year, this spy cam will show you a recent view of the classroom, and maybe you'll get a picture of "the bee that just stung Ted" or something equally interesting. At other times, you'll see some saved images.
