They learned about the climate, landscape, wildlife, and especially the marine mammals of the vicinity. Their findings on each whale are here, as well as their teacher's journals, which describe encounters with many kinds of dolphins and whales during the two-week voyage. The detailed entries include rich multimedia resources, such as links to photos, audio files, and a handy glossary.
WhaleNet - Have you ever wanted to go on a whale watch? Big boats of whale seekers leave from port cities all over the world, every day, in search of sighting one or more of the big mammals. Well, you can go on a whale watch right here! There's a slide show where you will begin by climbing aboard the boat and heading out into the Atlantic Ocean, and you are guaranteed to see some whales. That's better than what some of the expensive trips promise. Net-mom knows some people who went out into the ocean in Maine hoping to see a lot of whales. All they saw were big waves. Then it got foggy and they couldn't even see their hands in front of their faces! We know you'll have a lot of fun on this trip and will want to return again with your classmates or your mom and dad. There's lots of great information about whales available at this site, too.
WhaleTimes SeaBed - Can you tell the difference between a shark and a whale? Many sharks have two dorsal fins; a whale has only one dorsal fin, if at all. Also, a shark's tail is vertical, and a whale's tail is horizontal. If you're fishing for fishy facts, you can ask Jake the Sea Dog, who will answer questions online. You can even help write an ocean story. Take a swim to this Web page and see for yourself.
